A High Tech Beauty
by Lindsay Maresh
The inherent limitations of television and print advertising have been overcome by a newer media that offers virtually limitless possibilities. Today, companies invest millions of dollars into online marketing campaigns that have their own targeted audiences. Although the territory remains somewhat unchartered, many advertising agencies dedicate a portion of their staff and services to online media. World Media, however, was created in 1999 with the sole purpose of helping clients design and launch innovative internet advertising campaigns. Based in Miami, the interactive agency provides four key services: strategic online marketing, technology consulting, electronic customer relationship management, and full-service creative services. All twenty-five employees are dedicated to reaching, influencing and motivating their clients’ customers…via the internet.
Beauty Is In the Eye of the Beholder
The fact is, computers age. Some age because of the years of wear and tear, while others become outdated because of the technological leaps that diminish a once cutting edge system to one that drains resources with constant maintenance and slow response times. World Media knew all too well that its antiquated computers were due for a facelift. In particular, its creative department could benefit from systems with increased performance capabilities. Its IT department could use a break from troubleshooting the failing computers.
World Media determined that building technology in-house would result in a less than stellar machine that would require more IT resources and offer no warranty. Research and comparison of products concluded that many of the major manufacturers attempt to either woo customers with component overkill or market standard configurations that are hardly customized. World Media found only Alienware® offered the functionality, reliability and personalization it needed.
A few lucky World Media employees brandished their personal Alienware notebooks and the quality was renown, yet World Media decision makers admit the Alienware products had an unfair advantage…good looks. “Other manufacturers we analyzed package their systems with too many applications that we don’t need and would actually require our time (costs) to remove such programs that compromise performance,” explained Yanier Gonzalez, creative director at World Media. “To be fair, there was no doubt a ‘cool factor’ with the Alienware systems as well. They just looked good on our desks and most importantly, appropriately reflect our image as a high tech web design firm. After all, advertising is all about appearances. Alienware is the premium brand that speaks volumes to our customers, potential clients and employees.”
In fact, World Media displays its Alienware computers as a focal point in its office, showing them off like prized trophies enticing clients to discover what the firm is capable of with the unusual computers. “Typically, chasses are ugly and hidden under desks,” said Gonzalez. “Our Alienware systems look like something out of a science-fiction movie. Our clients are blown away when they see them and we are impressed by their reliability and performance.”
Beauty Meets Brawn
World Media chose Alienware Area-51® m5500 and Sentia™ 3400 notebooks, and Alienware Aurora™ 5500 and Area-51 5300 desktops. Using Alienware’s comprehensive website, Gonzalez was able to research and compare components, custom configure the systems, view high resolution photos and place his order online. “Because we design websites, we are critical of the sites we use,” admits Gonzalez. “I was highly impressed with Alienware’s site. I felt like I was the engineer designing the perfect system our needs. I knew exactly what was going into each system and had complete confidence that the unit shipped to my office would be ready to use out of the box with my exact specifications.”
Once the systems arrived, Gonzalez and team took only one day to migrate applications before they were up and running. Gonzalez said the transition was virtually transparent to users and required no down time, unless you count the employee downtime as they gawked at the new systems.
The Total Package
The powerful systems will give World Media the growing room it needs with scalable and adaptable components generally not found in mainstream systems. They are nearly 2 GHz faster than its previous systems and have twice the memory. The graphic rendering capabilities far exceed the previous units.
Alienware notebooks used for almost two years have yet to fail or need any maintenance other than a quick reboot and Gonzalez is convinced the new systems will perform similarly. The senior designers at World Media have been “treated” to the graphic workstations and the notebooks offer impressive high-definition resolution and sleek design for critical customer presentations.
“At first glance, Alienware’s systems appear to be on the higher end in terms of cost,” explained Gonzalez. “But you’re getting what you pay for and the quality, ease of use and reduction of required IT resources more than pays the difference.”
