Windows XP Service Pack 2 provides the latest patches and updates for the Windows XP family of
operating systems. It addresses issues discovered by customers or Microsoft's internal testing
team, along with support for newly released software and hardware to promote compatibility with
Windows XP.

Service Pack 2 is different from previous service packs. In addition to updates and patches,
it includes new features and technologies designed to help customers better address security
threats. These innovations, which are referred to as Advanced Security Technologies, are a large
part of the service pack.

While this new offering is predominantly about security enhancements, Service Pack 2 is also
about the latest and greatest hardware and software innovations. Service Pack 2 includes new drivers,
updates for Windows Media® Player and Microsoft DirectX®, plus technology that helps people
